There's a very interesting thing happening over at the 501st Armored Calvary Detachment. The ACD is made up of AT-AT Drivers, AT-ST Drivers and AT-AT Commanders (Veers). The decision has been made recently to move AT-RT drivers from the Clone Detachment to the Armored Cavalry Detachment.
There are only 2 AT-RT drivers in the 501st so the move will not have a big impact. But it calls into question a larger issue. Does it make sense for specialized Clonetrooper costumes to be moved to existing detachments of OT characters that more closely fit their costumes? The Kashyyyk Scout has been moved to the Pathfinders Detachment because of it's similarities to the OT Biker Scout.
As you know, Galactic Marine is much closer to a Snowtrooper than it is to a Standard Phase II Clonetrooper. So I would like your thoughts on this question:
Should the Galactic Marine costume become part of the Blizzard Force Detachment?

I see that as a potentially good move, on the basis that we would have the needed support and warm welcome from them. It only makes sense to move, if they want us. The most crucial part is making sure new potential costumers are able to get the answers they want and need to make killer GM costumes.
It also draws into question what would happen to the 53rd FAC boards if we are absorbed into Blizzard. I have never visited Blizzard Force thus far so I don't know the climate for it.
Just my 2 cents.

The Galactic Marines, within the 501st Legion, should be a part of the Blizzard Force. We are the predecessor to the Snowtrooper. Mygeeto was a planet that had giant crystallized glaciation and ice covering its surface with a frigid climate. I am a member of the Clonetroopers Detachment (Shocktrooper & Galactic Marine), and there are simply too many designations and costumes to be held under one "roof". I actually tried to start a Galactic Marine detachment, reviewed the bylaws, had the numbers to start it and was going to try to bring the 53rd as our website (already established / set up, and Clonetroopers Detachment recommends and sends members to the 53rd), but I received a lot of negative responses & was shot down by the Clonetroopers Detachment. So I gave up. Funny, the detachment leader of Blizzard Force, Ian Lindsay, supported the GM detachment and actually was willing to open the doors and welcome us into Blizzard Force. But nothing has been done. Ironically, when the Kashyyyk Troopers (predecessors to the Biker Scouts) got sent to the Pathfinders Detachment, there was only 6 - 7 costumes / members. The Galactic Marines in the 501st total (18) current members. As far as what would happen to the 53rd FAC....nothing. The 53rd FAC is an independent costuming group that not only helps members of the 501st Legion but also the Rebel Legion. Yes, the GM is a dual costume -- eligible for membership to BOTH clubs. We are sort of like the Dented Helmet (bounty hunters). The more I thought about it, the more it seems right that the 53rd stays as is. But I still believe, for 501st members, we deserve a more appropriate home -- Blizzard Force. (NOTE: The Blizzard Force has accepted and has forums for the Snow Captain Rex, which is a clone the last time I recall. As besides, with the 53rd FAC, we can offer our kewl swag ( recent and upcoming coins, patches, etc.) to anyone. Sorry for the speech, but that is my opinion. 8-

The original intention for this site has always been & still is just a costuming group. This goes for both 501st/Rebel Legion members (and potential members) along with those who build the armor for fun with out intention of joining either of the Legions. Like wise, I have not visited Blizzard force's forums (which it seems like now is a good time as any to do so). In any case, if they do eventually allow the Galactic Marines...I'm sure the will not only have a board specifically for GM, but may also include a sub-link to the 53rd FAC (much like the Galactic Marine section on CT.net)

I would love for us to join Blizzard Force (let's start a poll)!

Lloyd, before starting the poll we need to find out for sure what Blizzard Force feels about the merge. I'm speaking with them so we all can be on good terms whether or not we join them.

Sounds good! I always wondered why we never merged too (like the Pathfinders Detachment).

Hey Marines.
I heard back from Blizzard Force, and they are open to the idea of allowing Galactic Marines within their group. Here's what I was emailed:
"I'm completely open to that idea, however I do think the 53rd site has served Galactic Marines very well and I could see GMs becoming their own detachment soon. If the group is looking for an "official" home though, the BF door is always open."
Now we need to find out how the 501st feels about this. I'll keep you guys (and gals) posted on any info I receive.

If this happens, I think we should merge to Blizzard Force. There's no need in having a total of 3 forums for 1 Star Wars costume.

While I just now getting back to working on this costume, I wouldn't have a problem merging with Blizzard Force. I'm already a member with my Snowtrooper so one more costume with them wouldn't matter. I'm also hopeful to do the Snowclone one day so that I can have the hat trick.

I think everybody is forgetting what the Galactic Marines were originally created for. Ship to ship and close quarters combat. They were specifically train for boarding actions. Where does this fit into Blizzard Force? There;s no snow in space. I would have to disagree with a merge into Blizzard Force. Yes,the GM is the predecessor to the snow trooper, but that's all. I know I'm outnumbered here on this opinion, but that's what I feel. I think the idea of the 53rd becoming our own detachment should be re-visited. As stated, the Kashyyk troopers were merged and there are only 6 or 7 costumes in the 501st. That should be brought up to question why we are not able form our own detahcment, when there are more GM's.

Not necessarily. "The Marines were distinguished by their unique visor gear: synthmesh designed to keep out various hazards such as snow, sand, airborne fungus, and ash." (from: starwars.wikia.com/wiki/21st_Nova_Corps )

We should be our own detachment, we have nothing to do with snow troopers, just because of the cowl on or buckets? ?
