Semper Fidelis Marines, I am new to the site (obviously) and new to costuming as well. And by new I mean never even attempted it before, haha. Well I made a couple of posts earlier, but then I realized I havnt properly introduced myself. Dont want to get off on the wrong foot and all. So, to start with, I've been a SW fan for as long as I can remember. Loved everything about it, still do. And I always admired the people that dressed up as characters from the films, although sadly Ive never got to meet any of them. Years ago my father, who is also a life long SW fan, told me about the 501st, and naturally I fell in love with the idea. I've been planning to be a part of it for the past 6 or so years. Well I was but a teen back then, so I didnt have the means (or the requirements!) to join. But now I do, and here is where I make my first stop! I chose the Galactic Marines because... I am a Marine, nearing the end of my enlistment actually (a fact I mentioned in a different thread). I was so excited to learn that there are actual Marines in the SW Universe, and I thought to myself I just had to grab ahold of this obviously tight-nit group of people. So here I am, eagerly awaiting my transfer to the Private Sector, where I have (hopefully) more time and resources to dedicate to being a full fledged 53rd GM, and then part of the illustrious 501st. Until next time... Happy Hunting, RedTail

OOH-RAH, Devil Dog!!!
Welcome aboard, Redtail. Great to have you aboard the mighty 53rd. There are a few USMC vets here, including myself. Which the reason why I chose the GM as my Star Wars armor of choice. Some who know me by character name know me as Echo Four (I'm pretty sure you can figure that one out).
As I mentioned earlier, the Galactic Marine is one of the toughest trooper builds as there is very little official Lucas visual reference for us. There are the 15 seconds of screen time in Episode III during order 66, and 4 Action Figure varriants (repaints), and 2 comic appearances to include some reference images of the actual CG rig/model used in EpIII.
With that said, there are little prop makers that have made GM specific armor parts. Which is why I said earlier that it's one of the toughest builds...especially if it's your first. Though not impossible, since the GM is my first build too. Had mine for 3 years now, and I'm still making upgrades or MODs. Still, it's very gratifiying when you troop your armor, and someone says "Hey look! It's a Galactic Marine! You don't see many of those aroune. These guys are cool!" or even if you get called a Stormtrooper by someone why may not know much about star wars. The best part is when make a little kid's day.
As I mentioned to you in your other post. Feel free to check out the older posts. There's always some good knowledge to learn, and also feel free to ask questions. Lots of us learn form each other, and you never you if you might actually know something the rest of us may benefit from.

As Ramz says, very tough build. But you can do it. It was my first official costume too. It took me about 3 years to finish mine and get in to the 501st. Good luck, we are here to help.
