This is the event writeup someone posted on my garrison boards:
I trooped as a sort of "proto-Ferin," pimping the DC-15s RC Sidearm for the first half of the event (for the latter half, I chose to switch to my Carbine). No event pics yet (soon!), but the hallways in the "underground" side of the mall were rather awesome, so I had Shawn take a pic of me back there during a break.
Wow. Today's Make-A-Wish event was quite surprising on several different levels.
We walked in this morning to find that somehow Things Remembered had been given permission to set up a table in the hallway next to the escalators near the food court (our location for the "Stories of Light" event last year and this year (Dec. 2nd)). We didn't have to worry about wrecking the Things Remembered showroom! Very Happy
Picture sales/donations were fairly brisk until around lunchtime, when a woman I recognized but could not place dropped by to talk to the Things Remembered staff. I then recognized her as Dee Dee Morgan from the "Chris and Dee Dee Morning Show" on 99.1 FM here in Huntsville. She talked to us for about 10-15 minutes. Shawn gave her a S.O. business card, and she asked me to email her details on the Dec, 2nd event. Free publlicity!
We broke for lunch about 12:00, when Shawn was kind enough to go grab some food for us at the food court.
After lunch, we headed back out to the table area and noticed a steadily increasing number of mall patrons who wanted their pictures made with us. We soon discovered from a lady and her son that they had just heard about the event on 99.1 FM! It seems that Dee Dee called in the event to the radio station after talking with us! Free publicity! Very Happy
At about 2:30, we were led around the mall and posed for pictures with more mall patrons. We even posed with SANTA! Cool
At the end of the day, we had raised somewhere between $300 and $350 (about 70 Polaroid pictures! @ $5 each) for Make-A-Wish. That's not bad considering that they raised $800 in 31 days last month and we raised almost half of that in 5 hours today. Wink The Things Remembered people were thrilled to say the least
A special thanks goes to Mortis for showing up this afternoon after walking in the Huntsville Veterans' Day Parade! We appreciate the support, and thanks for handling for us! Cool
Shawn has the pics and will get them to me on Monday when he has broadband access. I'll post some then.
Event participants:
Jamey - Boba
David - Galactic Marine
Shawn - TK
Mortis - handler
