Hey folks!
I bought some material to scratch build my Bacara Kama. It's a heavy type of fabric similar to the properties of silk, as I want my Kama to look weighty yet flow like it appears to in ROTS (I was considering burlap, excpet it's just doesn't flow and is to rough in appearance)
Anywho, the color of this fabric is a deep red, about one shade darker from the Royal Guards.
As you all know, the Kama along with Bacara's spaulder are actually a burgandy marroonish color. What I need advice on, is how to now darken my Kama material to get closer to the burgandy side.
Do I take a cap full of say, black rit dye? I also want to weather it and distress it a bit too.
Any recommendations or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

You should post a pic of the shade so we could try to help you with your best course of action better.

Blues and purples will darken up red REALLY nicely. Not sure about dyes, but I can tell you with certainty as far as inks and paints go, if you want a deeper red closer to purple (where you need to go), you add blue. Black won't make it deeper, just darker. You'll probably want to start mby using purple dye since it has a lot of red in it anyways, and then going to blue. Of course, work slowly here and use a test scrap.

I bought enough this stuff to make probably 4 of these Kamas, so I will run some test with the purples first. Thanks for the recommendations! Keep them coming!

If the fabric is synthetic, you may have a problem using dyes. They often won't penetrate synthetic fibers.
