By the way, if I do try to do the basic shape (for now) for the mantle this weekend, does anybody have the basic measurements for the WHOLE thing (at least relevant, if exact isn't in the cards right now)? I will need a ballpark length and width (without the curve figured in)...Like, if you had a flat piece of paper, what dimensions would you give it for this project?

You have the reference pics of the figure and the movie stills, just measure the relative differences between head, shoulders, etc. and match it to your dimensions.

Yeah I'd measure it to fit your body. That way it looks right on you. The only thing that would change for the rest of us would be the specific measurements that we could apply to a template.

okay that works...I will start doing that this weekend...By the way, C.F., do you think that your template in one of these threads would still be somewhat valid now that we "know" that the mantle has a center piece?

Eh, not really. If you're really really good, I'll draw up a quick sketch of what I believe the mantle to be as far as shape goes.

I changed my mind...Any help with this would be a great help...Any suggestions (dimension or shape-wise) or hints would be swell...

Tonight I drew up some notes for my vision for my gen 3 mantle. These have also been uploaded to the GM flickr album for your convenience. Here we go: For a PRINT SIZE version of the last image, resize the image so that the little "1 inch scale" thing actually measures out to be 1" long when you hold a ruler to the screen. I've done that same thing before with some Fett armor templates with great success. Now, this template looks really funky to me. I drew it by comparison with the actual measurements to my gen 2 shoulder pads. I plan on actually using this template to mock up a cardboard version of it on my mannequin (which, by chance, is actually wearing my GM!). This way I can properly adjust the measurements and then create a better template if I need to. Of course, all of that will be posted here as I do it.

Well here they are I rebuilt them from scratch today because I looked at some of Captain Ferin's notes and I realized that my shape was off and I needed to completely redo them so here they are.

Excellent work youngling. Now you can take that prototype and adjust it to fit your body better, like adding a curve to the front part so your neck fits better, stuff like that.
