Great Email Cap - We need him over here actively. With any hope we can get him signed up on our board - make that (3) people interested in the GM pauldrons

I met with Ashton over the Christmas break, and we sat down and were hashing out ideas for the GM pauldron. He actually sketched out something similar to the action figure without the benefit of the references we have here. Needless to say he is excited about the prospect of providing these for everyone.
When I asked for a price estimate, he said it would probably be in the same range as his ARC pauldrons, between 100-150. For that he will use multiple types of leather, rigid on the shoulder plates and softer material connecting it. I can't wait to see what he comes up with, and offered to put forth the dough to get a master made he can display for future sales.

I just hope he gets back with me on the email I sent him. His work is typically larger than it should be, and I REALLY don't want these things looking too big. I just hope he's willing to work with customer-specified sizes.
Can some one that is is constant contact with him ask him if he's seen my email, and if he has, to send me a reply? I really just want to talk to him about the measurements before anything is set in stone.

Ashton is awesome. He made my custom snow commander pauldron, and I love it. He would do an awesome GM pauldron for sure. I am in for one or two !

C_F, He gave me his phone number and told me not to hesitate to call (I have him working on a project for my RC). If I don't hear by this weekend, I'll call him on Sat or Sun. He is pretty bad about returning emails, but I guarantee he reads everything.

I have never seen this guy's work before a few minutes ago...I was reading through here and saw his EP III pauldron...That thing looks amazing...Depending on how good the "finished" GM pauldron looks, put me down on the waiting list!

Hey I don't want to sound at all like I'm too good for him because I most defenitely am not but I think I will try to tackle this project on my own and if you guys want me to I will post my pics and progress on this board.
Also for all of you wondering out there me and MRLAWS are working together on my molds for the peices of armor. He is going to be a huge help on the shoulders I can tell. Also Monday or Tuesday I am going to make all of you who ordered a set of GM knees and hands and elbows I am going to make your set. So if you want me to I could send those aerlier than the rest of the package but that is up to me just PM for more details.

youngling. That's a perfectly sound decision. I'm not totally sold on the Nyghtcraft idea either, mainly because he hasn't gotten back to me yet. I'm still planning on making my own as well. So perhaps we can get together on building materials/methods/shapes/etc. I'd like to get some kind of sameness forming within the group so we all look alike and there isn't too much variation in component looks. Of course, that's just a personal desire, so don't let that get in your way of doing what you want.

I'll definatly be tackling the pauldron on my own for now. Maybe someday if he comes out with the leather version and depending how it looks (to scale), but I don't see that happening for a LONG while. So Youngling, post away with progress pics!!
So would leather (or more in my price range, vinyl) be a good choice for the pauldron? Like make one out of plastic and cover in black vinyl?

So would leather (or more in my price range, vinyl) be a good choice for the pauldron? Like make one out of plastic and cover in black vinyl? I see it as a variety of materials. I can easily see some sort of plastic sheeting (sintra comes to mind) being used for the panel sections of it, perhaps wrapped in black vinyl. But then you have to worry about the raised section going around the bottom and side edge of each side of the pauldron (*), and that can be done any number of ways. I plan on bringing black canvas or blac duck cloth into the mix to use as my hinges, where each panel will meet. This will create a soft hinge point to allow the pauldron/mantle to literally flop down into place. And since there is a lot of soft goods being used in the construction, I see a lot of Shoe-Goo being used (which is basically stronger but more flexible Goop). (*) I tagged this sentence here because I feel a diagram is now in order. I'd like to draw one up later today after classes based on screenshots and the new figure detail. Also, since this thread has turned into what I would classify as a "gen 3 pauldron" discussion thread, I'd like to stop the discussion here and redirect it to my "Gen 3 research thread," which is located in this section of this forum, since it's starting to turn into a development discussion. But here's a link to it as well: 53rdfac.proboards98.com/index.cgi?board=kama&action=display&thread=1166135544Please post any replies in the Gen 3 thread! Thanks!
