OK, this is something that when people are talking about how they did what in their completed (or close) armor, they never mention: SHINS! What is everybody using? I know that the GM shins were based off of (if not exactly the same for the CGI stuff in the movies) as Jango's shins. Also the RC shins are pretty close (again, if not the same) as the GM shins. Is everyone using custom vac-pulled shins, RC shins, what?
Also, since unlike a standard Phase I or II, the shin is pretty much alone (as in no other armor near it) how are you guys holding the shins in place?
I had an idea for that, which I thought would be cool looking and functional. Since the GM shins have the two straps per shin piece going all the way around it, why not use the straps to hold the shin in place? If you took two long pieces of the nylon webbing (nylon?) and sewed/stitched them to the pants that you will be wearing (the grey outer layer), you could fish the straps through the front two holes in the shin armor and wrap them around once or twice tight to hold the armor on. I don't know if it would work, but if it could, that would be kind of cool.

i'm using sintra/bondo shins. I tried the fastening system you suggest already, but i'm finding some problem with the nylon strips: they hardly adapt to the inclination of the shins (rear piece) and they fell down, therefore making the straps look oblique on the shins, I don't know if i've been clear, but anyway i want to try a different material for the strips, something more bendable like gum or rubber.

on my TK the shins aren't connected to the thigh or any other piece of armor, I don't think that's normally what's done with shins. If they fit well you can just put a little foam in them to keep them snug. I would make them with sintra and bondo, the solutions for any problem

I plan on fabricating them from abs, sintra or some kind of plastic. I've even looked at moding an old pair of shins I currently have. I'm going to make them seamless so they ride on the top outside of my boots. They'll slip right on like my CT armor does.

OK, so most of you guys are pretty much running along the lines of making custom fitting shins, instead of modding Jango or RC shins...I don't know about sintra or forex (was that mentioned or did I pull that out of my butt?), I can't imagine if I was to shape something by hand that it would turn out good. Or turn out at all for that matter. I still think that I am just going to "cheap" (HA!) out and mod some Rc shins or something. When I actually get to that stage, I will definitely post something. My new chest and back pieces should be here any day now...I cannot freakin' wait!!!!!
Apollo, I see what you are saying about holding them on. I guess I just like to make things more difficult. What can I say, my dad was born in Alabama...Making things more difficult than they should be is in my blood...haha...

You are really overestimating how hard it is to work with sintra. I had my doubts at first too, but this stuff is great. Heat it up, shape it, and if you don't like how it turned out then heat it up and shape it again. You'd only need a few dollars worth of it for the shins and I can't imagine it would be more expensive than getting somebody to piece out an RC kit for you (unless you've already got someone to do that for you).

I got this link somewhere else: www.usplastic.com/catalog/default.asp?cookie%5Ftest=1Type in sintra in the search and WOW! Pretty good size pieces for pretty cheap. Really all I am going to do is round it out and use vinyl marine leather over the top. Shouldn't be too hard to do really.

I get mine from a local sign shop. Just go somewhere that makes campaign signs and that sort of stuff and ask if they have sintra
I was wondering, why is this thread in the Helmet forum?

Ok, maybe I will look for some this weekend and try the shin idea.
I don't know why I put this thread in the helmet section. I think I was just reading new stuff and was in the helmet section, not thinking when I started the new thread. Oh well.
I got my NEW chest and back plates from mrlaws today. I will take some pics and post them. They look INCREDIBLE!!!!
