OK, I am pretty sure that this has come up somewhere, but I just cannot find the thread, so I am just going to ask...
The 3 little detail things on the bottom of the GM chest plate (the circle, the big oblong box with rounded edges and the small little line one) do they STICK UP or INDENT INWARDS???

From what I can see, it looks like the circle and oblong thing stick OUT, and the line indents IN. This is just what I see. Captain probably has alot more info on it.

You know, sometimes I am just SO blond...I didn't think that one could be one way and one could be another way (as in all three not necesarily the same)...Thanks dude...
I will have to ask the captain what he did with his GM or at least what he knows...

For my chest detail, the circle and oval thing are glued onto the surface of the chest plate, so they stick out. Then I have two little square-ish box cut outs right above the circle. I backed those cutouts with a scrap piece of plastic, so they are recessed inward.
When I started to warm up, I plan on making resin copies of my chest details. It's far too cold right now to bring out the rubber. But I'll just be pouring the rubber right over the chest details so they'll be right from my chest piece.

that would be pretty nice...For now, whenever I finally get my armor and stuff so I can start assembling, I will probably just get randomly shaped pieces for those 3/4 greeblies (i.e. a fender washer from ace hardware or menards) and just fill in gaps...I will look ok...

I did quite extensive part-searching for my details. At the time, I was working at a hotel in the housekeeping department, so I had a lot of neat shapes around (plus I had access to the engineering department, so even more shapes). One day, one of the vacuum cleaners broke at one of its wheels, and I picked up the wheel cover (to throw it away), and I realized it was perfect for the Gm chest plate. I don't remmeber the make or model of the vacuum cleaners, but it's a 2" diameter circle, with a bit of a bevel on the outer edge.
Then another day I was putting a new iron in of our rooms, and all the irons came with these little measuring cups for adding starch or something to the iron's water reservoir, and I noticed that the little cups at this oblong rounded shape for the base. Well, we didn't use then, so I brought one home. I didn't think to snag any more, but luckily I'll be casting them. It's 2" wide and a TAD under 1.5" tall.
The little recessed rectangle "buttons" (as I call them) are 9/16" by 1/2".

thanks for the info...I work for Sears as an appliance tech so I will just search through my computer database if I have a few minutes (or the junk "yard" back at the shop) for some pieces...
By the way, if you have a few minutes, would you mind putting a close up of your chest detail area on your chest plate (I mean REALLY close up) so I/we can see what it looks like pretty close please?

Here is what I have. PLEASE note that the little decals I put on there are my own flourishments. I found no evidence of there being any kinds of decals, so don't consider my decal apps to be accurate by ANY means. I just wanted to do a little custom detailing. But you can consider the rest of it *pretty* accurate. Is that close enough for ya?

Nice touch Dave, I too always liked adding little details to my costumes as well. It really adds to the costume, sort of like your 53'rd shoulder patch which I got two of
