So, my girlfriend and I are starting the research for doing a GM build so we can be twins at troops . Currently, I'm a Centurion TK and my girlfriend is working on an ID (and not currently a member of the legion). Of course, this is likely going to be a long project... but I've been browsing the forum here and this is a great resource. I suppose shoes are probably going to be the hardest to source... but I think that's true of a lot of builds, IMHO. Also, I'd want to eventually go for level 3 certification if I do this. Do the CTs or FAC have some kind of similar program like FISD does? Maybe I'm just not looking good enough, but I can't find it. Thanks for having this forum. This kind of thing is invaluable for geeks like myself Cheers!

Hey there Penguin, Welcome to the boards! Glad to have you and make yourself at home and take a look around. I'm not sure if we have any kind of program or levels for the GM as the FISD does, but it's possible. Hopefully someone else will chime in and shed more light on the subject as I'm curious now as well. As for the boots, yeah that's a tough one. One of the members found a VERY good alternative to the original (and well priced too) if you can find them in your size. Unfortunately, I've never seen them in white but I don't think coloring them would be too much of an issue as leather dye should work just fine for that. Do a search for Buffalino Sentinel boots/shoes. I found a pair up on eBay at the moment. Here's a link: www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=buffalino+sentinel&_sacat=0&_from=R40Good luck with your build and looking forward to seeing your progress! -RKD

I like it when people get my name "riddle". Good job Well, I notice that in the CRLs there are levels 1-3 of GM completeness, so that's what made me wonder. Just my personality type to want to do costumes as accurate as I can get... My girlfriend is quite the opposite. She just wants to look cool. I've looked at that exact auction actually. Unfortunately, I'm a size 11, so that's a no go for me. I'm looking at the perry ellis shoes ATM, which seem to be plentiful supply. But I'm curious how much work would really need to be done to them... seems that the topic on these forums just sort of dropped off unfinished www.nytopbrands.com/perry-ellis-mens-boots-range-tan-suede-327664.htmlThanks for the welcome. As soon as Mardi Gras madness dies down a little, I'm going to start researching more earnestly. My goal would be to be done by Dragon*Con 2013.

unlike Old Trilogy costumes, the clones are CGI'd. So complete screen accuracy is very difficult. However, the over-riding costuming culture with the clone fraternity is that you are constantly striving to be as accurate as possible.
my personal feeling is that the various certs being implemented is not conducive to a community feel. I always tell my troopers that the CRLs are only a guide, and that you should always strive for as accurate a build as you can get. (persoanl opinion btw, but the 501st or 53rd FAC stance AFAIK)
Most of the clone CRLs are written to be as accurate as they possibly can. There were compromises for certain parts eg neck seals, undersuits and neck rings etc cos of the difficulty to do the mods or make the suits.
Post up - theres loads to learn. If you can improve on a part, we are also always receptive!
welcome to the 53rd.
the boots are a major pain for this costume. they are based on a real world shoe. But the actual shoe is no longer in production and finding one is ludicrously expensive. We have replica makers - all of which are currently unreliable. I would say that you'd ahve to take it up with your GML. I am pretty loose with my interpretation of the shoe with my troopers. I'd dremlel the arch to make it look more prominent. Paint it white and leave the soles tan.

Welcome to the FAC. Feel free to look around, ask questions, and hit us up for information. we are here to help you become successful in your GM build. As far as levels are concerned the answer is no we do not have them. Furthermore, since the GM is such a hard build, I don't believe that we should have them either. In order to get an approved GM costume you have to have the armor and soft parts complete, and the backpack. Since the sourcing of the armor and helmet remain difficult, I don't think that levels are acceptable, as well as the requirement to be approved.

BTW, just for the record, I'm fine with it either way. I actually disagree with the CRL on some costumes, including the TK. I just want to look not just good... but DAMN GOOD! The GM is definitely a hard build and I wouldn't even consider doing it if I hadn't already cut my teeth on a TK and some other softparts pieces. Hopefully before D*C you'll have two more GMs representing the Bast Alpha Garrison. AFAIK, we'd be the first in our garrison. Hopefully when they get wind of this build, we can sucker, hrm, I mean encourage into doing a GM build as well.

Welcome!!!
Awesome to see some more troopers building Galactic Marines. Check out our new ARMORY & DEPOT section of the boards for all your armor vendors and supply needs.
As far as boots, I recommend the Ozark Trail : Putty II hiking boots available at Walmart. Needs a little modification, but they are inexpensive ($40) and available. Check out the MR Work In Progress thread to see the final outlook of what these boots can look like.
As Dan and other members has stated, do not hesitate to ask any questions / request assistance. Looking forward to your progress.

And well, I don't want to ask a stupid question right off the bat, but I just can't seem to find that WIP thread for the life of me... Could you provide the link? The search seems to be giving me the run around and I can't find anything like that browsing the boots section of the forums.

And for the price, they certainly can't be beat. Guess I'll swing by the local walmart and pick up a pair to start hacking away at. I'm thinking I should have the shoes down before I start making bigger investments. I don't know if that's the best way to do it, but it feels right. *shrug*
