I don't think the styrofoam ball would work since the helmet/head shape is oval, not circular when seen from above. It is longer than wider. If you want to go that way, you should reduce more on the sides to make it more oval. But I'd suggest to get a styrofoam block or planks to build a block and sculpt an entire helmet that way. It shouldn't take more than a couple of hours. I don't want to pollute your thread with my pics, but to have a better idea of what I'm doing you can check this pics, from DSCN6024 to DSCN6083. They relate to the two last helmets I tried to build. Face plate with cheeks and rim are added later. www.algunasimagenes.hostoi.com/GM/

Just thought i give you a few ideas to help you out. I had started to build a helmet and found this very useful My linkThe idea is to use a Skaters helmet . Yes this is a stormtrooper build . Still it was very useful Even with foam or fiberglass to assist . Still respect for trying something different. Also im using old wnite dvd covers for my Knee plates. Trying to keep costs down it may be an idea for you. The bend well and glue together easily .

I think that's a good start for a solid base. Domes are very tricky to sculpt and even harder to pep. Good luck!!

i cut the helmet with the dremel to get it even. i was wondering about shoes, i dont think i can make them i have a size 15 shoe, and shoes usually dont come cheap... ever. plus im still growing. one of the bigger reasons i tend to scratch build is because im about 6 foot 4 and i dont think anyone makes anything but vader armor any bigger. lol

i did covered the holes today with bondo, and did some sanding. im still a little bit of a noob to body filler so its a little uneven. on some of the edges where it needs to blend and bumps. im going to use wall spackle to fill in those details, and make them blend right. i painted it white to see where ther errors were that i needed to correct. . but here is a pic of it.

i used the spackle and it did a great job it was strong and filled in most of the imperfections. i bought a quart of spackle for $3 from wallmart and barley used any of it. i was contemplating using it on the foam instead of fiberglass, it gives a strong seal and im not going to be doing more than walking or running in it.
