The curve in the frame is probably inspreid by real world frames of traveller and military backpacks. Of course it covers most of the back plate and curves but I wouldn't add more curves than needed to adjust to the human anatomy. The given example with the clone standard versus GM is a good example how much of a curve you need in the shoulder area to fit properly. I think in the case of the GM it might even be possible to add a slight curve accomodating the direction of the spine. Looking at the HASBRO and GG examples this is something to be considerated.
I wish there was more CGI material. When Sci-Fire worked on the Kashhyyyk Trooper it seemed there was more material available to base the sculpts/CNC models on. This would be also interesting for the lower details of the GM backpack frame as I'm not convinced that current solutions are the last word on this matter. It even looks much more detailed for me on the poor screen caps we got. I hope to have a blu ray drive by the end of the month to investigate further. It proves to be unproductive to try photographing stills on my big screen...

That's exactly what I've meant - nice work. Will this fit people with heights ranging from 1.65 m (5.41) to 1.76 m (5.77)? If so you might have a PM soon

Thanks MP I would think (and hope) that it would fit folks in that range (I'm 5'10"), and if it's too big you should be able to trim it down some but remember that this piece is also sculpted to match my chest piece (I'll be posting up some pics in a few days with me wearing it). However, if you're barrel chested (40" inches or more) then you'll definitely have some issues making this fit without shimming it. Due to making this more for my own body style and frame along with the size limitations of my vac table, this is pretty much gonna be as big as it gets. More pics to follow

You mean 5 ft 10 inch? This would be around 1.77 m so just a tad bigger than me (1.76). It's just I have to build a GM for my gf too Looking forward to the first test fit

MP - it should fit you for sure no problem then. You'll definitely have to make adjustments for it to fit your wife. I'll have to see if I can convince the girlfriend to let me attach these to her body to see how they fit on her cause I think she's about the same height as your wife. I'll keep ya posted Thanks Dan!

Drag her to the dark side . Btw do you plan to add more depth to the edges? Unfortunately we lack high res 360° studies of the GM but looking at all the other clones they have them so it's most likely the GM does too. Edit* already answered to in the other forum And maybe slots to the back plate if not already included as I suggested in the other forum but that's up to you of course.

Thanks J Yep MP, definitely gonna add those depth edges around the arms. There will be some along the bottom but it'll flare out flat like on the chest piece. I just need to tidy up those details before getting the mold ready for production Slots will be added as well

RKD, are you developing this back plate simultaneously with the backpack?. If you plan to build an accurate backpack, I'd suggest you do that, so you can correct curves as needed to attach the backpack, specially for those sides of the backpack (the main box will adapt one way or another).

Well the plate is already pretty much done where I want it so that's good to go. As for the curves of the pack conforming to the backplate, I've got a plan for that I'll keep you all posted as I get closer to it

You simply have to model on a pulled back plate. But I personally think that the frame construction of the backpack is not meant to fit snug on all apots. On the 360° and screenshot references it looks more like the frame is constructed to follow the line but not as organic as the backplate. So considerate that there is a visible approach but still a border between two different object styles -> organic vs anorganic.

Well, we're all familiar with the Steelblitz backpack right? The reason his looks the way it does is because of the logistics involved in making it a vacc'ed backpack with all the parts yet trying to stay true to the look of the pack as closely as possible. Remember too that vac forming limits what you can pull due to undercuts (not to mention webbing issues that may occur because of the shape of a buck), so that may affect the look bit too. It'll be similar to SB's, but will attach differently. The 'carriage' box will also look different than his but serve the same function. That's all I can say at the moment without having to actually draw up a pic to show you all (cause I'm too lazy to do that lol) but I'm still gonna have to put together a cardstock mock up to make sure that my theory is correct I'll post up pics when I do that to get all your opinions before I actually start construction on the master to make sure I'm going in the right direction.
