Got my Heat Shock GM Lid in and it is so awesome that I could not wait to get started, so after I unpacked it from the box (Fastest shipping ever from the UK to the US, and well packed I must say) I started right away. Here is where I am at so far.... It was like being a kid at Christmas when I opened it, I had to pose with my new bucket!! Did most of the prep work, still have to cut out the vent, and I love the quote on it by the way, the the wash, sand, and primer next. Other completed parts Slowly by surely we will get this build completed.

heh - glad you like it bro.

as for the cowl - I think its fair to say that no one has yet got this right yet. When I did mine I didnt have a template cos the shapes are too complex.
(1)I did the cowl in 2 halves. (2)Start with the face section - make sure you have enough length of cowl material (3)start with a straight edge and glue the centre portion down - I used hot glue, the heat and fast setting helps. I glued a 4-5cn verticle line from the top to bottom along the centra of the beak
.... next bit takes a bit of co-ordination and quick action (4) with a hair dryer, I heat up the vinyl so it gets stretchy (5) decide where along the beak you want the cowl to edge along - put small drops of hot glue a few mm AWAY from this - I worked in short sections along the eye holes (6) stretch the material over the hot glue is (7) use a sharp hobby knife to trim the edge to reveal the grey (8) work in short section -3 cms at a time, swapping between left and right as you go to maintain the tension on the scretched vinyl to get it flat. (9) same idea - worked the material into the top of the V section up to its sharp poitn on the front. (10) my face section and back section join at the corners of the helmet as it turns towards the back flare.
repeat till happy
hope that helps?
after I did mine - I was wondering if it would actually be easier to glue the cowl RIGHT to the edge and then simply paint the grey edge onto the vinyl material itself?
Nate

I don't always hold up helmets, but when I do I prefer a Heatshock Galactic Marine. Stay thirsty my friends! He is the most interesting man in costuming.

Looking good Dan. Your GM is coming along nicely. Little on the Shiny side right now, but that will change once you battle damage it. Can't wait to see your continued progress.
