FANTASTIC Jim!!! I see a helmet, kama, belt, bicep w/ ammo pouches, the other bicep, and forearms all ready to go. Plus I see some reference shots lying on the floor. Really looking good. Cannot wait to see the progress and have another GM join the ranks. Should you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I'm digging the pictures! Your armor looks awesome! Thanks for sharing.
It does seem a little hard to see the pockets on the trousers (on the outside pictures), but I think it's because of the camera flash as you mentioned since they are noticeable in the indoor ones.

WOW!!!! That costume looks SPECTACULAR. Very impressive. I tip my helmet to you both, the weathering also looks great. Are you going to submit this to your GML (Garrison Membership Liason for those who may not know) for 501st approval? I sure hope so, it would be great to have another Galactic Marine on board. Please let us know. Once again, GREAT JOB!

Thanks for the kind words! Yes, I will definitely be submitting this for 501st approval. I'm going to wear it on Sunday at C2E2 and I'll get my submission photos then as they usually have an area off to the side with a plain background that's ideal for photos. I'll post those pics here as well, either on Sunday night or Monday morning. Here are my observations of the costume so far: 1. Visibility - I was surprised how poor the visibility was in the helmet. The shape and size of the eye holes that provides that wonderfully fierce and menacing look make for a pretty small viewing area. It didn't help that I fogged up almost immediately upon putting on the helmet. I don't see how fans could be installed so if anyone has advice on that, I would appreciate it. Visibility is quite a bit less than in my Bly, so I'll have to be very careful at the con Sunday with the Very Large Gun 2. Comfort and mobility - Obviously this is a huge improvement over my Bly costume as there is no cod/butt section and no thigh armor. The lower body movement that the costume allows is a nice change. 3. Heat - the costume is not hot at all. But I wasn't cold outside in 40 degrees either. But then again, I am a Minnesotan 4. Weight - One of the issues we had to overcome was the significant weight difference between the back piece and the chest piece. As a result, the weight of the backpack tends to pull the chest piece up as the back falls down. We corrected it by placing Velcro on the front of the shirt and attaching the shirt to the chest piece. Then we put hidden straps on the inside of the shirt that snap to the pants to keep it from pulling the shirt out. My girlfriend Stacie had the same problem with her Boba Fett (because of the Jet Pack) and came up with the solution. I'll have more observations after I wear it on Sunday and I'll post here with the new photos.

crocoboxer. Do you mind posting a picture of your bucket's interior? Mine used to fog up like crazy at first, but after it broke on me (the first time) and I MODed the padding on the inside it doesn't fog up as much as it did at first. I have not installed cooling fans on mine (yet) but after a while, I learned to suck it up in it . Usually, now I only take it off when I start to sweat in my eyes or if I with a group and we need to be somewhere (I'm sure you are aware the people don't stop you as much for pictures when you troop if your bucket is off).

Gentlemen,
I have successfully installed a single, 12 volt squirrel cage blower fan into my helmet. This fan blows across my lenses to keep them from fogging. It is powered by one (1) 9 volt, and two (AA) batteries -- the AA battery pack (Radio Shack) has a switch. I will take some photos of the interior of my bucket and post them up here. I actually have a couple of extra fans if anyone is looking.

Jim, What type of material is your grey "jumpsuit"? I took a tip from a Galactic Marine down in Florida, and bought a pair of Walls short sleeved gray coveralls from Tractor Supply Company (TSC). And the best part, it was only around $20. Here is the link: www.tractorsupply.com/workwear-clothing-footwear/mens-clothing/mens-overalls-coveralls/walls-men-s-short-sleeve-coverall-gray-773676799It is lightweight, cool, and very comfortable. Just needs to be modified -- 1. Cut the top off and save the material to make flaps for the front pockets 2. Carefully remove the back pockets, to be used for the front pockets 3. Remove the front zipper, fold over the flap and it closed 4. Install the front pockets. As far as the helmet, here are some pictures of the inside of my helmet. As you can see the powerful, 12V squirrel cage blows onto the lenses. And this is where the batteries are mounted. If anyone is interested, I have a couple of extra fans that I can sell or buy more. I have a plae that I deal with and the fans are only $6 a piece + shipping.

That's awesome, midniterider. I'd like to get one of those fans from you. Actually, I'd like to get two. PM me with the details and I'll get the money to you.
As for my jumpsuit material, it is a polyester/wool blend sewn onto the under shirt. It's pretty hot, but that lack of circulation in the helmet is what's causing most of the heat. I think the fan will help immensely.

Well, I'm 501st and RL approved! I've made a couple minor changes based on some recommendations I received. I painted gray on the bottom rim of the eyes and I lengthened the shoulder straps to lower the chest piece and close the gap between the bottom of the chest piece and the belt. I've noticed some GMs (in the movie and in costuming) have the belt right up to the chest piece and some have a gap. I am 6' 2" tall so there will always be some gap there for me but I have managed to reduce it somewhat.
I'm having a professional photographer take some shots of me this weekend (in all my costumes) so I'll post them up here next week.
