Are there actual stores you could find this stuff at? I've seen posts where people know where to find it, but it seems these places are few and far between. So is it really only feasible to buy it online? Or is there something else more common that works just as good?

There are certain shops that carry sintra. You might have to look around for plastic shops (kind of like wood, machine, metal, and glass) where they cut it. Some places might be hard to find depending on where you live. Some hardware places carry them, but like I said that also usually depends on where you live. Most of the places online have good deals on it.

Thanks I ordered some online today, 3mm thickness because I heard that's a good thickness to work with. Also in connection to another post (more chances to be answered lol), do you think it would be feasible to make the chest and back from sintra? If I were to make a foam "skeleton" to mold it around?

Is this your 1st attempt at armor/prop making?

Hi Duke, I'm so new to the forum that I haven't even introduced my self, thing that I plan to do immediately after this post. It happens that I wanted to answer you first, because I'm also in the process of building my armor with 3mm sintra. And coincidently I have just started to shape the chest plate with foam two days ago, trying to do exactly what you are asking about. I plan to finish it this week if possible, so maybe we can see the results soon. About sintra, I've found that is great to work with as long as you have right molds to shape it against them. What I've learned so far is that if you don't have the right molds (which could be anything with the desired shape, not necessarily a "formal" mold) at least in my case it was almost impossible to come out with a reasonable good piece (they end up asymmetrical, with irregular shapes, bumps, etc). But if you have the molds or something to shape the heated sintra against it is incredibly easy and you get excellent results. So, I will try to get some conclusions about the sintra chest plate over a foam mold as soon as possible. Meanwhile I plan to post the pictures of my wip and the pieces I have already built (the easiest ones) so you can get any idea that may help you and learn from my errors.

To il-matic: Yes it is, but I was going to do smaller parts first. Just wanted to have an idea for when I did attempt it.
To tangofett: Thanks for the info. Anything you can find out would be greatly appreciated!

I would check with some of the propmakers over at CT.N first (before you proceed) or else you will end up wasting alot of money & time.

Remember "measure twice, cut once"? Same premise. Research, research, research. THEN build your piece. Repeat for each piece. I started off at a sprint and I have to crack my shins apart and re-do, b/c they're too big. You cannot rush this project.
