Greetings from the WI Garrison. I'm Zach and I currently have a Scout and I'm interested in learning more about the Galactic Marine. I thought I'd introduce myself and not lurk. If anyone could PM me with info about various helmet/armor makers/costs that would be appreciated. Looking forward to learning more about this costume to see if it's something I'd like to get into. For those of you that have a TK and GM, would you say the GM is easier to move in? Can you sit down? Thanks in advance.

Greetings Zach, and welcome to the 53rd FAC -- the definitive costuming group and website for the Galactic Marine. I am a member of Garrison Carida (PA, DE, WV) and I hold three (3) designations: TK (Stormtrooper), CT (Shocktrooper), and recently GM (Galactic Marine). The Galactic Marine is the most comfortable costume that I have, sometimes feel like I am walking around in nothing but under clothes (being so used to armor). Please visit my build thread (Midniterider WIP) to see the basic process of a GM build from start to finish.
Not going to lie or sugar coat this costume, it is not an easy build , however, it is a rewarding one for this character has an intense menacing, bad ass look. And thanks to the 53rd FAC, this costume has evolved and parts, helmets, and armor are much more available, not to mention an abundance of knowledge and experience all documented here in build and WIP (work in progress) threads. Welcome aboard, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Hello Zach, welcome to the Mighty 53rd! This is the best resource for the Galactic Marine, so I'm sure any curiosities you may have will be answered. As midniterider stated above it's one of the toughest to build (but in my opinion also the one of the... if not the most rewarding). Here is a form post with some info on the GM armor parts, which I hope will help. 53rdfac.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=buy&action=display&thread=560There are lots of great Marines here that will help you out if you have any questions. Feel free to ask, and also check out the older posts as it's possible they may answer any questions you might have. Also, please feel free to post any pictures of your Scout in our non GM thread. 53rdfac.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=nongmOnce again, welcome aboard and can't wait for the day you say "It's done".

Thanks for the help - the armor link is exactly what I needed. I'll scout around and see what I find else I can find out. Glad to hear the costume building process has evolved - from some posts I had skimmed it sounded like "this is a very difficult costume build for lack of accessibility to armor and references."

Hey, I'm back! It's been 2 years since I posted here originally During that time I've completed an X-Wing pilot along with some non-SW costumes. I chose the X-wing was because it cost less than a GM and I thought less armor would be more comfortable. Unfortunately I'm not really feeling a connection with my pilot costume. Nearly everything was bought, there's no armor, and I don't get nearly as much attention during troops compared to when I wear my Biker Scout. I'm considering selling my pilot and starting a GM. Seeing members of the 53rd FAC at C6 was awesome, I really liked the costume in person. I'm going to do more research here on the boards before I decide to buy anything. I want to browse more WIP threads and learn more about what I'm committing to. A few things that I keep thinking about: At C6 I was able to try on Midniterider's helmet and was surprised by the lack of visibility compared to a scout. I'm trying figure out how important recognition is for me at events. I could care less if they know the name of trooper I am, but photos would be nice Do current GMs get a lot of photos?

Welcome Back Zach, several changes hers and there, the GM's are mostly the center of attention at troops because of the cool look of us. Some people do know who we are and then we have to tell others, but none the less, we do get attention. The vision in the bucket is not much different than in my TK helmet, I can see alot with the GM bucket on, you TB has a wider shaped lens, so you do see more tham us. If you need any help let us know, we do now have some great sources for the armor!!!!

Hi Zach, welcome back...glad to see you couldn't get the GM out of your blood. Like the others here on this forum, I really love the look of the GM. I believe it's so unique and there seems to be a tight brotherhood of the few members (relatively speaking) that we have here. I met everyone at CVI for the first time and it felt like we were all old friends that hadn't seen each other in ages. I'm still a GM in progress myself, so I can't answer any of your questions regarding the costume per se, but there's definitely some really good resources for the it now that wasn't here a few years ago...namely the new HS helmet for one. Be sure to look around and ask questions and check out some latest wip's, I think you'll be surprised. Either way, good luck in your venture and we'll be here and around to help you out

Welcome back Zach!. Good to see you here!!.
Regarding your questions, one of the many things I like about the GM is the "proper" amount of armor it has. It looks like it has a lot of armor, but it doesn't have armor where it is more uncomfortable to use, like from the waist down. And this is also covered by the kama, so it doesn't look as armor-less as a Jango would be from the back. I love the proper amount of armor and relation with fabric it has.
Regarding viewing capabilities, the TB definitely has a bigger lens, but to favor the GM, we may have a little more peripheral view than the TB.
And regarding the "coolness" when trooping, there is only one thing against the GM in this area and it is the very few seconds that they appear on screen. That may make it hard to be recognized by the people that is not that much into SW, but for those who are, I think it's a killer. The novelty, the color, the look, I think all this makes it unique and totally cool.
Actually in C6 when I was only using the 53rd FAC t-shirt Ken produced, I could see the views I got and I was also asked by collectors and hardcore SW fans about the T and the 53 and the marines, so it is very cool and distinctive.
And despite not being on screen too much time, at least when they are seen, they are not defeated by Ewoks, so I think that gives the GM coolness enough.
Hahahahaha, no offense here Zach, just kidding.
I hope you move forward with your GM, and as you have already been said, we are here and count on us for any question, doubt or advice.
And welcome back again!!
