Thanks Jorneyman and Heatshock....since I have a Heatshock lid I will follow the HS method, I have seen it both ways, the real question here is what is correct for Legion approval, since I have seen it both ways, does it matter?

If I got this right - there isnt a strict CRL on the cheeks yet. But you should also run it by your local GML.
but judging from previous GMs - it looks like youd be ok either way (for now)

I definitely love what you've done with the cheeks and inner rim on your helmet, HS. I'm planning to upgrade soon and am trying to figure out how I could attach the vinyl cowl but still leave the cheeks you've sculpted exposed. I'd either apply the cowl and carefully trim it around the cheeks? Or part of me is wondering about the feasibility of just painting the sculpted beak white and somehow just attaching a cowl at the lower edge where it would need to sway? Blending it and the textures of the fiberglass and cowl would look weird, but it's an idea Phil

I'm thinking about cutting some spare plastic I have to fit the cheeks in the HS Lid and then putting them in after I attach the cowl? Just an idea.

bottom line is that no one really knows, and theres no right or wrong. yet
if I could get rid of those cheeks and deep recesses, I would cos they are a bee-atch to cast and put quite a bit of stress on the silicone at the very deepest corners :/

lol, HS, that's actually comforting to know you've considered it. Rather than, "are you insane? that'll never work!" Dan, that's actually a really good idea! If you could overlap them and still recess them enough to appear to still be attached to the hard rim around the back I think it'd have the best look yet Phil

I cut out the cheeks from a sheet of old plastic from an armor build I did that fit perfectly in the HS Bucket cheeks, so when I put the cowl on I have the option to insert them into the cheeks over the cowl.

With my SGB, I have tan triangles mounted on top of the cowl. When I finish my HS, I plan to leave the cheeks and neck exposed plastic painted tan. So I will cut the vinyl so that it attaches along the bottom edge of the helmet neck in the back.

My plan worked out well, they look perfect and are fit just right intlo the cheeks after I attached the cowl.

I was looking at the OP 8x10 and it looks like the cheeks are a tan color, but that they also have texture. I haven't busted out a magnifying glass yet, but has anybody else really looked at this pic?

I think that we have all agreed that they are an off white or light tan. I am going to off color my when I do my final weathering and adding some battke damage.
