Hey everyone,
So I'm re-tooling the cowl on the suit I got from Sgt Carida. I'm making it longer and fitting it a little tighter and into the tearducts.
How do you feel about using a very fine white material other than vinyl so that you get a better hang/flow and the ability to turn your head without bunching up the vinyl?
I'm thinking of using something *like* silk but not quite. I think that by putting a short length of vinyl under it I can hold the basic shape but it will mean that the lowest part (anything under my chin) is actually soft and will allow a head-turn without bunching up on the chest armor.
Anyone tried this? If no one has I'll see what I can do to get a mock-up going just for S&Gs...
Phil

I don't know what everyone else thinks, but I would say Go for it. If it doesn't work you can always try something else (something new, or just go back with vinyl).
You never know, until you try it. You might find something that works better.

Definitely go for it. I for one would LOVE to see some creative new ideas really flowing around here (not that there isn't creativity at all, but progress just tends to be kind of slow, no offense anyone). If it works, it could become the new standard and you could be the pioneer for that.

I was feeling the same way. White vinyl is what every other GM I know of has gone with. At least we all look consistent. But, it does not behave the way the on screen cowls do. I was thinking a satin maybe? I needs to me more light and flow a bit more I think. Give it a try. I may try something new too. I cut my vinyl too short and have to re-do it anyway. Good idea!

Maybe attach it with hot glue temp. and see how it looks, take some pics, even try weathering. thought!(light dimly bright) how to keep it from fraying?

I just hope it turns out well. I have to apologize I have been out of the loop for a little while. Moving and everything. But I will start posting more when I get some more ideas.

Hey all,
Just about ready to try this out of desperation.
There is just NO way to use vinyl and get a satisfactory look in every picture.
The cowl just bunches up horribly and I can't look down to save my life.
The thing that's holding me up is that I'll need to sculpt a little onto the 'beak' of the SGB helmet so that the softer material will hang correctly. If I don't, it will just fall right off the nose area and look flat.
I haven't given up, just need to set some time aside and DO THIS!

Ok, so here's my suit set up with a t-shirt. Obviously the thread is too large to use it permanently, but I think it shows the shape and hangs better. I've found a really sheer wedding material at JoAnn's and I plan to use it. What do you think? Phil

I REALLY like this! I am going to switch mine out as soon as you test it.

Not bad at all. What type of T-shirt is it? Is it think or thin? I might have an old pro-club t-shirt laying around that I might switch out.
Thanks for the 411, journey.

It looks kind of like a duck. The reason why vinyl would be a little better, is that it would cover the face plate part a little better. I do like how it hangs & flows, though.

I did not see the duck when I first looked at it, but now I can't see anything else.
I think the "duck" problem can be corrected with an addition to the faceplate under the cowl.
I still like the way it flows and hangs, much better than the vinyl.
