Dude. That scratchbuilt looks awesome. I would be proud of that too. I agree with the general consensus about the receiver, but it also gives it character and something that other people's scratchbuilt probably won't have.

With or without 30rd magazine:-) ? w/out. BTW, your beast looks pretty dang good, bro. It's certainly not easy turning off-the-shelf this-and-thats into a believeable prop. Props to you, Sgt.

Thanks Vod. You are right....it is hard to take something off the shelf and turn it into something else. GL is an inspiration because of how he takes things off the shelf and makes them into something else.

I always loved how he did that for the original movie. The falcon came from a hamburger at lunch, the tie bomber, from two hotdogs next to each other. The list goes on. I always see things like that for architecture. I took 2 years of architecture in high school and I still design buildings and all sorts of stuff. I have this house ("house") that I have been working on for almost 6 years! It is over 300,00 Square Feet. But there is a catch to that. I won't take up the whole thread explaining it, but let's just say that it's not on big building, it's kind of broken up with bits or nature...

I have, I just keep forgetting to take some pics. I have to send a few to woodchuck (the guy who made it) since he said he asked everyone who buys one to do that. I will try to get some pics within the next week or so.

WoodChuck paints it, but putting on a couple layers of the Testors made a big difference, IMO.

Tamiya Acrylic "GUN METAL GREY" is what I used on the barral of mine among other paints. It comes in a VERY small can but will cover most of the rifle.

where do you buy Tamiya paint? I've really only looked at Home Depot and Wal Mart for spray paint and they never seem to have gun metal

Tamiya paints can only be found in professional(ish) model shops. Look for hobby shops and just ask around. Tamiya, and anything Japanese in my opinion, is pretty much the best you can get.

Local Hobby shop is where I get mine. I started out by using Tamiya on 1/6th scale customs and 3 3/4 customs and moved on up with it. It is expensive compared to testors but it is the cream of the crop. They sell on line too. Just do a goggle search and you'll find their site.

is there a possibly cheaper brand that sells gun metal paint? I'll buy tamiya if that's the only game in town, but I like to be as cheap as possible. I'm also assuming that it can be sprayed; I'm rubbish with a brush

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting. I am off of work this weekend (sat, sun AND mon). I will get a few pics this weekend. I have to get some new (or at least charge the) batteries for my digital camera. It's been dead for awhile.
