Ok folks, time to get Ferin armed! I got my RCS today from pghfett, so I've been starting to work on it. First thing was to dremel down some of the leftover rough spots from the mold vent. That wasn't a lot, but it needed to be done. Then I got to work on the barrel. I bored it out by a good inch and a half, then I took a cone-head grinding bit and bored out a little hole in the center of it to give the inside a bit of a techy look to it. Next, and this is the part I was telling you about, pghfett, I got to work on the hinge point. I drilled the hole to stick the little metal rod through, and then I got the screws in it. I was telling Mike that it'd be cool to stick some TV Coax connectors over the hinge rod for added detail and to beef up the hinge. it would only be the grip section, so I had to cut off the entire head of it. However, the rod is thinner than the inside of the Coax connector, so I had to wrap the rod in electrical tape to beef it up a bit for a tight fit. Finally for the evening, I had to do a little cutting on the arms to get a perfect fit. But I'm glad they came too long instead of too short! Lol! Rather... tee hee.

Here's the pistol in it's current state. Nothing needs to be done to the slider arms, so consider those "ready for paint." Last night I did some customizing to the charge counter: I cut little notches at the sides, and the ground down the inner edges of the middle ridge. This ridge will be the actual blue part on the charge counter. Also last night, I started adding the little detail bits behind the blue lighted part on the barrel. These are grooves that guide the barrel back into the the rear section when you cock the gun in the game (why on Earth would you cock a laser pistol?). There are four of them, and they look a little different in the game, but I figured with the already known differences my gun has, I might as well make them unique. These groves are sculpted out of QuikPlastik plumber's putty. And here's the gun, minus the charge counter and slider arms. I've primed it once and then resanded it and buffed it. I think I'm going to sculpt the grips out of plumber's putty as well. I'm I'm adding details, why not? Also, there is some Aurebesh on the rear section of the gun I'm going to try to decifer later tonight, and then print off some decals. I also plan on printing off some other decals for it (provided that this Aurebesh isn't what I think it is). Now I get to start on your shoulder pauldrons, Mike!

The gun is all ready for paint now. I will be following the color scheme from the RC website. I sculpted the grip tonight:

Here is the gun in its current state. You'll notice that the area that will be the blue glowy thing has white paint scraped off of it. I painted it white last night (so I could dry brush the blue glowy stuff on it), but the paint came out lumpy (?!?!), so I scraped it off. I'll be buying new white paint tonight, because I think the stuff I was using was really, really old. I can't remember when I bought it, but I had it around! kek.

The pistol is complete and ready for weathering and final assembly. I start weathering tonight! The glowy on the charge counter was very simple. It was white Krylon GLOSS, and then "Apple Barrel" brand acrylic Tropical Blue GLOSS (# 20348) painted on over it. The glowy on the barrel was done in the same manner, except that the blue was drybrushed on in the same manner you would paint up a Gundam model's beam saber. *hint hint* Gundam fan in the house! *hint hint* I thickened it up around the edges to make the middle area seem brighter. It's very, very vibrant, so I think I achieved the proper look. I can't wait to see it under a black light though.

Behold LucasFilm's continuing tradition of "WTF?" This little decal goes on the sides of the rear of the pistol, right behind the little dots on the gray block section. Many of us have spent lots of time analyzing what this text says, but to no avail. Some reference images that popped up on CTN claimed it to be Mandalorian text, but it is clearly of the Aurebesh nature. Why would Republic armories stamp Mando'a onto a pistol when that's not the standard language of the galaxy ("basic")? Anyways, I went through my Aurebesh font file to try to decifer it, and only some of the letters came out. But then I realized I had a variation of Aurebesh on my computer, Aurekbesh. This has different numbers and new symbols for punctuation. So I went through every key on my keyboard and was eventually able to decifer it. You would think it would say something like "Blastech" or "DC-15s" or something along those lines, but it's not. It's gibberish. Crazy, tiny-ass detail gibberish. Thought we couldn't tell what it said, LucasArts, didn't ya? Take that! The text actually reads "C?U0F0H" and we (Goose and I) assume it's just some sort of registry number, if it has any meaning at all. LucasArts tried to pull a fast one on us, but we're nerds, we can see past their trickses! Anyways, I printed up a sheet of these decals on some water-slide tranfers model decal paper. I printed out 51 of them on the same sheet, figuring I could mail some out. Mike, I'll send you some, I only need a handful for myself. The photo below shows the decals next to some stamps for size reference. The decals look kind of funky, but that's the paper playing with the flash. They are also slightly pixelated, but I'm not going to be able to get them any crisper. The pixelation will help blend the decals into the gun anyways. BTW, I weathered the pistol today. I still have to assemble it though, but I'm going to put the decals on first. And that won't happen until tomorrow. I still have to seal the decals and that takes 2+ hours until they're ready. I'll be posting photos of the completed gun in the next few days.

Hey Dave,
I got my pistol yesterday (AWESOME!) and was wondering something...What are the colors that you used for the body? You said: "It was white Krylon GLOSS, and then "Apple Barrel" brand acrylic Tropical Blue GLOSS (# 20348) painted on over it." What were the other colors that you used (i.e. for the barrel, the grip, the rest of it, the red "light" looking thing)?

Hey Dave,
Please take your time on this, you know, no rush or anything, but I am posting a small list of things (some things I mentioned in my last reply and am rementioning) that I would like to see pics of or just know:
Exact Names of colors (for): -The barrel, grip/bottom of gun, and sight-fins (different shades of grey/black) -Those two square red "lights"
-Pic of the coax thingy you used (the whole thing before you cut it)
I would also like to know what size drill bit you used for the whole for the metal rod (charge counter thing)...I could figure it out but I am just wondering which size you used.

The barrel is a Krylon gloss gray. The front sights are not paint. They are silver leaf Rub-N-Buff. The bottom portion of the gun is a Rustoleum metallic black (sparkley). The red part is Citadel paints blood red. The coax parts are Coax F-connectors cut down. Found at Radioshack. $10/10-pack No specific size bit. I just wiggled the bit around until the metal pipe fit.

Is there supposed to be a holster for this anywhere? On the new GM figure of the order 66 target set there is a Mace Windu GM and it has a different color scheme on the figure but on the picture on the the back of the packaging it shows the GM with holsters on the outside of the kama. I personally think it would look better if they were on the inside of the kama
