I have a friend of mine mother make me a gray under suit and had a question about the pockets.
What are the dimensions of the thigh pockets?
They appear to be at least 4 by 4 inches. Then the part that comes down to close the pocket about 1.5 inches.

I actually picked up material the other day to start making a new undersuit, so when I get to the thigh pockets, I'll be sure to let you know what I come up with.

Does anyone have high quality images of the pockets? The ILM model pics we have do not show the pockets clearly, and the movie stills posted in the Flickr account are too blurry to make out the details. Any other good sources for this info? I have a seamstress anxious to add my pockets, and will custom make them if need be if we can get some decent references.

Also, how strict are we going to be regarding size of pockets on the GM undersuit?
I have previously referenced a pair of snowboarding pants that are darn near perfect, and they have the pocket on the front, but it seems a little too large. Close enough? Start from Scratch? Modify?

This is just my opinion, based on what I know about the 501st, but I can't imagine that they would be THAT strict about the pockets. I would think that if they are roughly the same size and shape and pretty much in the general vicinity of where they are supposed to be that it would be ok.

I think I have my undersuit/pants situation sorted out. I tried on the snowpants I keep talking about this morning. They fit, they have pockets on the front, the have little detailing on the parts that will show, and they make my butt look terrific. What can I say, I'm closer to 30 than 20, I need all the help I can get. I took pics while I was trying them on, I'll post them when I get a chance.

I started with a pair of grey work coveralls, cut the whole top half off above the beltline. I'm using the two front pockets and putting them down for the thigh pockets (just adding a flap) then I have cut the back up to make a bib for the front that will be resewn onto the beltline, adding some 2" wide elastic straps to make suspenders and still have some material left over. I'll post a pic to show what I did later.

I know it's probably not canon (MAYBE close) but here is a pic of a pair of pants that I will likely be using for my marine undersuit. Ok, nevermind. I thought I had it loaded on my computer. I will try to load it tomorrow night to show you guys.

They haven't gotten finished yet Jen, my seamstress (aka my amazing wife ) is still working on them. I will take a photo tomorrow though of their current state. Last time I touched her sewing machine I broke 3 needles and sewed myself to the parts I was making

In that case, maybe you should stick to the prop making rather than the sewing.

I'm going with a 5X5 with a 1 1/2" flap. The main pocket portion will be like a Boba syled pocket ( blockish ), since that's what the photos seem to reveal. I'm thinking velcro for a fastener that way I can at least get into it easy with a bucket on my melon.
