But I personally think that the frame construction of the backpack is not meant to fit snug on all apots. For the sake of structure, strength and practicality (as well as assembly), it may have to fit snug. But we'll see, nothing's set in stone in my mind and I like to explore all options to make the best possible product.

Thanks buddy lol! Yeah there's quite a bit in the garage...no more room! Anyway, yeah I've worked out the logistics on the backplate (in my mind lol) and I think it should work out great. I'll keep you all posted

In the interview they said the battle of mygeeto was inspired from the ardennes offensive in 1944. From that perspective some of the equippment and design of the marines looks "familiar" even though we know the origin of this design is also derived from the already known snowtrooper. However both theories may exist side by side and have the same base intention of design. But just imagine a common wehrmacht soldier with coat, scarf, snowgoggles, helmet, generic base equippment and you have an almost similar look - I can sketch it if you like . ah wait.... found a pic in the web that illustrates it quite well www.gdrecon.co.uk/images/general/wintergunner.jpgwww.gdrecon.co.uk/images/general/grossdeutschland-Rifleman-OstFront.jpg Those are generic eastern front examples but we have parallels of course on the western front and you now may get the idea behind it. The tube of the GM backpack is definately not the regular "detonator" type of tube and I figured except for the diameter it pretty much looks like a streamlined gasmask can adaption. I hope you get what I want to say with streamlined so I won't get into detail what was left out and what got stylized! The standard issue 1936 type gasmask can was about 27 cm and about 12 cm in diameter. Length might fit judging from the screens (larger than detonator) but the diameter is less....probably around 7 or 8 cm. That is my starting point. As the CGI department of ILM seemed to be not that meticolous as I would be I wouldn't go that far that they used the exact sizes but it fits and would make ....some sense in the whole context of the inspiring setting. See - those guys see the same movies and and play the same games as we do....I think in some MOHAA or COD episodes you even get designs like those shown above and iirc even with a dust/snow goggle. Dn't know yet if such a game was popular just in the time or prior to the production of EP III but well....some guy may have just made the same suggestions or came from the same direction during the meeting hammering the layout of these characters. Another figure I use is my Scout tornister. I think the dimensions of the main tornister of the GM backpack can be about the same overall size of the scout hump. Probably not the exact size but maybe you get what I have in mind. I think the snowtrooper tornister is not a good example as in the whole it has a complete different appearance. It may have the same base extensions if you neglect the depth and GM typical detailing not as compact as the snowtrooper aggregate type of backpack. Of course I haven't tried to match and verify my theories with paper models yet but it is my current base developing the backpack. Don't know if this is of help or makes sense to you but it is a logical possiblity for me

In my case, more than specific measurements, I used proportions. E.g. if I'm not mistaken, the diameter of the canister fits about 2,5 times in the total height of the backpack, etc.
Regarding the tube or canister, I don't have it with me right now, but I think the diameter that suited me best was between 85 and 90mm.

The Interview was part of the bonus material on the blu ray box edition. I looked into that when I tried to get more information as well as photographing the screen because of the lack of a blu ray rom in my PC.

OK here's what I'm looking at for the backpack so far...just a preliminary idea stage at this point but in theory I think this should work. I want to make the entire 'undercarriage' (?) box in one piece thus making it easier to attach the pouches as well as structural stability/rigidity for attaching to the backplate. The red lines represent the basic overall shape of the box as a whole. The green lines represent separate 'mounting' boxes for the side pieces which will get pulled as well as attached separately (no real way around that one that I can see because of the undercuts). The blue dashes represent the curved recess for the canister. The orange arrows point to possible problem areas on the mold that could result in releasing issues after the pull. I really think this can still work if I bevel the edges correctly at a sharp enough angle to allow the plastic to release. I'm gonna need to do a basic rough mock up of this out of cardboard or foamboard so that I can get a look at the shape before moving forward. Thoughts and ideas welcome. I'll keep you all posted as I progress

Can't wait to see your progress on this, I have a SB backpack, which is light and I like, I would like to see what you come up with. So far your armor is coming out great.
